Tuesdays with Roger

The winter/spring running sessions have ended this evening and what a huge success they were.

Kudos to Roger for his endless enthusiasm and willingness to set the courses, stand around and time us (even when it was raining and cold) and then recording with all his engineering zeal our times and splits and targets in spreadsheet form.

The running shoe draw was won by Andrew Clegg.

The two Titans members who attended all 16 sessions were Allison and Margreet. It's consistency that will get you results.

Roger will take a very well earned break from organizing the Tuesday sessions. Plans are still being firmed for what lies ahead. More details to follow.

Impressive in Kelowna

Another swim meet and another solid showing by the masters' squad.

Check out the story in The Chief at this link.

Here's the short:

The club took home 10 golds, five silvers and six bronze medals at an event that saw more than 36 teams and 260 swimmers hit the pool.
It was a particularly strong weekend for Squamish swimmer Yi-khy Saw, who set a new B.C. record for the 400-metre individual medley. Saw finished the race in 4:46.75, a time that was only two seconds off the Canadian Masters record held by former professional swimmer Jeff Welechuk.

Thanks to Coach Jan for organizing both swim meets this season. A huge success for the team and a great experience for everyone.

All the Titans swimmers improved their times from previous meet in Victoria and some of them set new  personal records.

CompuTrainer sessions

We are into a four-week series of spins on the CompuTrainer at Jen Segger's facility. There are two groups - one on Thursday evenings and a second on Saturday mornings. Both classes are full.

Participants will be surveyed at the end and we'll explore the idea of additional sessions in the future.

So far so good. We have spun on different parts of two Ironman courses on Saturdays. Ironman Canada (the flats) and Ironman Wisconsin (lots of turns and short but sharp hills). More challenges ahead including Richter Pass.

Tracking a pyramid

A very solid track session with a pyramid build, peak and decline.

As with all the Tuesday sessions, the focus is on pacing and learning what your pace is and also how to increase your perceived effort as the session nears the end.

Learning your pace takes time. Lots of time. And more often than not, the mistake that most runners make is to start too fast. It's hard to keep one's adrenaline in control. Key to learning and keeping to your pace is not getting caught up with the crowd as they surge at the start.

Alice Lake loops

It was a solid session in the rain earlier tonight. A 15 minute warm up and then into one mile repeat with the objective to cut one's time by 5 seconds each repeat.

Once again, it's all about pacing.

**

A reminder from the Park official that you have to pay even this time of year, when it's raining and when no one else is around.

An annual park pass is $25 and you can buy them off the Parks officials. I believe you can also get them at the Adventure Centre.
